Local people attempting to shake up local politics
Yet again our First Past The Post (FPTP) electoral system has let us down in East Cambridgeshire.
No party got a majority of votes in the 2019 District Council elections.
If we had a proportional electoral system we’d have a council where no party had overall control. In that case the councillors would have to debate in public and come to a consensus. This would be a huge improvement for our local democracy.
Instead under FPTP the Conservatives have a majority of seats and can push their policies without having to consider the views of anyone else.
If, like us, you’d like to see our electoral system reformed to be more proportional you might want to sign this petition – Change the general election voting system to one of proportional representation
